LIVE VIBRATIONS The Blues Monsters, a top draw on the local music scene for several years, have released a live recording, entitled LIVE VIBRATIONS (recorded at the Street Vibrations 99 Festival in Reno), which aptly captures the appeal of their live performances - a mix of blues classics such as "Roadhouse Blues," "The Thrill is Gone," "Low Rider," and "The Sky is Crying" with some of their own original tunes. The band's interpretations of these classic tunes range from silky smooth to the sultry and the downright raunchy, all with great arrangements and instrumentation. Barry Slayton's searing, soaring guitar solos share the spotlight with the fluid lead vocals and harmonica of Larry Yates. Chuck Dunn shares lead vocals duties, while adding depth on rhythm guitar and keyboards and composing original tunes, such as the slightly jazzy "Been There and Done It," showcased on this CD. Tom Barnes on Bass guitar and Michael Overhauser on drums help to keep this blues machine on track, tightly structured and grooving. Horns, provided by Mark Curry on trumpet and Remmel Wilson and Niall McGuiness on saxaphones, and a stunnign depth and complexity to these blues tunes. If you haven't seen a live performance of this group, chosen as best local band in the ACTION readers' poll nearly every year, you can pick up a copy of their CD at Joby's and find out what all the buzz is about. |
